THEMA DANICUM Jubilee Tourney 2000 (from TD 100) by Henrik Juel Tilbage til forsiden

by Henrik Juel

Of the 51 entries, 26 showed a "T", 14 a "D", and 11 both. The problem type distribution was: 19 direct mates, 19 helpmates, 5 retros, 4 selfmates, 3 fairies, and 1 study. Some problems with beautiful letters had rather plain solutions. And some problems with interesting contents had letter defects: either men unnecessary for the solution were employed to paint the letters, or men were unnecessary for the letters. But I enjoyed judging the problems and was impressed by the authors' inventiveness. Special thanks are due to Leif Schmidt, who as director supplied the problems to me without author names. Protests, if any, must have reached the director before January 1, 2001, at which time the award is final. Unawarded problems are at the authors' disposal.

Removing Bc3 allows -1. - Kf4-g4 -2. d2xe3+.
Removing any other non-king is analyzed similarly.
